Ask the designer questions
First designer: Game environment designer Saija Wintersun
Hello, I am a postgraduate majoring in game design from the University of Central Lancashire, and my research focus is game scene design. My teacher Jim Thompson recommended you to me. I was very shocked after reading your works, such as Sniper Elite 4, so I have a few questions to ask. I hope that after you see the information, you can take a little time from your busy schedule to answer me, I will be grateful.
First question: I saw a scene in Sniper Elite 4 that combines nature and architecture very well. How do you draw inspiration from the scene in the real world?

After Saija Wintersun answer, I will follow up with this question: How to balance realistic scenes and design scenes?
Second question: How did you decide on the overall style of the game scene? For example, Sniper Elite 4 is a World War II sniper game. It takes place in the beautiful Mediterranean coast of Italy. Is its overall style more apocalyptic or medieval? Retro or innovative? How did you decide?
After Saija Wintersun answers, I will ask: How do you stay creative? What do you do when you hit a bottleneck?
Second designer: game scene modeler (not found yet, after finding someone, I will add the designer's own work to the question.)
First question: When designing a game setting, how do you make sure that the setting fits in with the gameplay, story setting, and character design?
After the designer answered, I continued to ask: How do you use scene design to guide the player's mood or behavior? What are the specific design techniques?
Second question: What are the different design approaches when designing open world and linear level scenes?
After the designer answered, I asked: How do you get inspired by the real world or other works of art?
The third person: the scene maker in the movie (we haven't found anyone yet, but we will add the designer's own work to the question.)
First question: How do you deal with space narrative and atmosphere creation in the production of film sets?
After the designer answered, I wondered: Can these techniques be applied to game scene design? And turn the question around and ask them: Do you think there are similarities between film and game design? Can the same process be used?
Second question: How did you enhance the scene through materials and lighting? (I wonder if the same can be applied to game scene design.)
Fourth person: interior designer (not found yet, after finding the person, I will add the designer's own work to the question.)
First question: When designing interior Spaces, how did you ensure that the design was aligned with the client's needs, architectural style and environment? (I thought about how to make sure the design of the game scene fits the setting.)
Then ask question:When you design a scene, are there many differences between indoor and outdoor scenes? (I wonder if the fact that players have more choices is a challenge?)
Second question: Is there anything in particular that inspires you when designing (referring to his work), such as fine art paintings or real-world locations?
